Alabama-Georgia point spread moved within minutes of Saban diagnosis – AL.com

The news of Nick Saban’s COVID-19 diagnosis quickly made national news Wednesday evening. That headline didn’t take long traveling to Las Vegas, either.

Within minutes, the Alabama-Georgia point spread moved to reflect the uncertainty of Saban’s status for Saturday.

The Crimson Tide was a 6-point favorite before the news at most books and a 4-point favorite after, according to Vegas Insider.

The reaction was swift, too. Alabama sent a news release at approximately 4:49 p.m. CT Wednesday and the first line (at Circa) moved at 4:51 p.m. CT. Almost every major sports book line went down within five minutes of the news breaking nationally.

The spread is down as low as Alabama -3.5 at FanDuel while a few like the Golden Nugget and Mirage-MGM still have the Tide as 4.5-point favorites.

The first line released Sunday had Alabama a 7-point favorite before moving as low as 4 points and then pushing back to a consensus of a 6-point spread before Wednesday’s news.

The full list of line movements related to Alabama-Georgia can be found on the Vegas Insider website.
