MLB, MLBPA inform clubs of loosened restrictions if 85 percent of players, staff get vaccinated for COVID-19 – The Athletic

TAMPA — Major League Baseball and the Players Association informed teams Monday that clubs that get 85 percent of their Tier 1 (players and staffers with direct contact with players) vaccinated against COVID-19, health and safety protocols for the entire tier will be loosened.

Additionally, individuals in Tier 1 who get vaccinated will see their personal protocol restrictions loosened.

This directive is meant to serve as an incentive for Tier 1 individuals to get vaccinated early in the season. Many players and staffers throughout MLB have been vaccinated already under eligibility allowances in Florida, Arizona or their home states.

Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker, who is 71 years old, was vaccinated in California in early February. Texas is opening eligibility to all adults Monday, and the Astros said the team would stop in Houston so players could get vaccinated before flying to Oakland to start the season.
